The US Senate has not yet confirmed Eric Wendt as ambassador to Albania.

In mid-June, several Albanian media outlets reported that the United States Senate had confirmed Eric Wendt as the new American ambassador to Albania, even publishing the result of a purported vote of 51 votes in favor and 47 against.

However, official US Senate documents show that this information is not accurate.

According to the Senate Executive Calendar, Eric Wendt continues to appear on the list of nominations awaiting consideration and vote by the Senate in plenary session.

His name is listed as number 761, as a candidate for the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Albania, with the note:

“Reported by Senator Jim Risch, Committee on Foreign Relations, no published report.”

This status means that his candidacy has been approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but has not yet been put to a vote in the full Senate.

If confirmation had occurred, his name would no longer appear on the Executive Calendar as a pending nomination.

Wendt's nomination process began on April 13, 2026, when President Donald Trump officially forwarded his nomination to the Senate.

On May 20, he testified before the House Foreign Relations Committee, where he presented his priorities for US-Albania relations, emphasizing the fight against corruption and organized crime, strengthening cooperation in the field of defense, cybersecurity, and encouraging American investment.

On June 4, the Foreign Relations Committee approved his candidacy with 19 votes in favor and 3 against, forwarding it to the Senate for consideration.

According to American constitutional procedure, after approval in committee, the candidacy must move to the plenary session of the Senate, where it is put to a vote by all senators.

Only after this vote does the president sign the official act of appointment, the ambassador takes the oath, and can take office in the country to which he has been appointed.

Consequently, although Eric Wendt remains President Trump's nominee for the position of United States Ambassador to Albania and has passed the review phase in the Foreign Relations Committee, he still awaits final confirmation from the US Senate before he can officially begin his diplomatic mandate in Tirana.
