Skender Hita in protest

The Director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, went down to the boulevard today, taking the lead of the forces of order against the protesters.

But this move was not a restructuring of the law enforcement forces, but came about due to the injury of the director of the Tirana Police, Oliger Torba. The latter went to the hospital for treatment with his arm bandaged.

His presence at the hospital premises came at a time when the situation in the capital was tense, due to clashes between protesters and law enforcement, and for this reason, Hita went down to the field.

So far, there are no full details on the circumstances in which the Tirana Police Director was injured, or on the moment when he sustained the injury to his arm.

Over the past few hours, the situation in Tirana has been accompanied by incidents, attacks on institutions and police intervention to disperse crowds. Officers have used tear gas to disperse protesters, while police actions have also been reported on the streets of the capital.
