Protests with Molotov cocktails and fire, but also cooperation: DP and SP return
The Electoral Reform Commission is co-chaired by Oerd Bylykbashi of the DP and Damian Gjiknuri of the SP.

In the face of the protests with Molotov cocktails and firecrackers that swept the capital over the weekend and will continue, the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party are expected to sit down opposite each other at the Electoral Reform table. After several months of recess, the Special Parliamentary Commission reconvenes on Monday, which seems to be set to begin work without the parties' agreement.

Sources from the blue headquarters informed Top Channel that the meeting agenda was imposed by the Socialists, who aim to complete the legal framework regarding the holding of local elections after the approval of the new territorial division, which divides the country into 46 municipalities.

At Monday's meeting, two issues are scheduled on the agenda: discussion of obligations arising from the legislation on local self-government, within the framework of the electoral reform process; and continuation of the review of outstanding tasks related to the draft law "On the Financing of Political Parties" and remaining issues of electoral reform.

The Co-Chair of the Electoral Reform Commission, Oerd Bylykbashi, has requested that the work focus on implementing OSCE/ODIHR recommendations, and that the Electoral Reform guarantee the separation of the state from the ruling party.

Regarding the new electoral system, the Democratic Party has expressed its support for 100% open lists, even in the election of municipal councils, while the Socialists are open to discussing the system, on the condition that the package of constitutional amendments also includes a reduction in the number of deputies from 140 to 101.

The Electoral Reform Commission is co-chaired by Oerd Bylykbashi of the Democratic Party and Damian Gjiknuri of the Socialist Party, while the mandate of this commission ends at the end of November./TCH
