Two trains collide in Egypt, at least 4 dead and 88 injured

At least four people have been killed and 88 others injured after two trains collided in Egypt, south of the capital Cairo.

The accident occurred on Sunday in the Al-Ayyat area of Giza province, about 52 kilometers from Cairo. According to the Ministry of Transport, a train traveling to Fayoum province, in the southwest of the country, collided from behind with another train destined for Aswan province, in southern Egypt, reports the AP.

As a result of the collision, one of the trains derailed, but authorities have not announced which of the two trains it was.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that four people died in the accident, while 88 others were injured. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

Following the incident, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi declared that he had ordered the launch of an immediate investigation to determine the causes of the accident and hold those found guilty accountable.

Meanwhile, emergency teams and cranes have been dispatched to the scene to remove the train wreckage and restore rail traffic to normal as soon as possible.

This is not the first time the area has faced such accidents. In September last year, two freight trains collided in the same district, leaving the driver and his assistant injured.
