TIRANA – The Tirana Fire Station caught fire yesterday, news agencies reported. Despite the efforts of electricians and agronomists who arrived at the scene, the flames spread rapidly without giving anyone present time to alert the fire department.

According to initial reports, the fire station in question did not have a fire alarm system, while the fire alarm bell had not been working for two years due to lack of funds. Someone at the station tried to call the fire department, but no one picked up the phone, as all the firefighters present had gone outside to seek help.

Fortunately, the dramatic event caused no casualties, except for the wounded pride of a group of sailors who happened to be nearby but were unable to do anything.

"Someone might say, how is it possible that you sailors, out on the water all day, don't have a bucket of water to throw away? It's a shame, but we had come to Tirana for a coffee and we weren't prepared," sailor Marin Nari told the media.

Meanwhile, investigations so far have revealed major shortcomings at this station. Specifically, the fire station lacked extinguishers, even though the fire was in full swing. Despite the firefighters reacting quickly, urgently sending fire engines to the Pogradec lake to fill with water, when they returned everything was gone.

Asked by the media about the quality of the building's works, the owner of the construction contractor company, Flakërim Tymi, stated that everything was done according to parameters and was certified by the authorities.

“Here are the papers,” said Mr. Tymi, showing the documents, “the facade has been insulated with rice straw and corn leaves, according to standards. The outer surface has been painted with a layer of bitumen for energy conservation, and finally it has been sprayed with diesel to repel mosquitoes.”

After reviewing the entire file, the investigators thanked the builder for his willingness and apologized for the inconvenience.

It should be noted that there were also accusations that firefighters were not equipped with appropriate work equipment, such as special clothing, helmets, tools and other work materials; that they were not given meals according to the law, nor were they given bonuses. But these were strongly denied by the Minister of Interior, Bestyt Kaçkavalli:

"These are slanders," declared the minister, " I have all these tools in a special room in my house, and any of the firefighters can come and get them. I have also put the money in a special fire-proof safe, to keep it safe. We had even insured the fire station building against floods and volcanoes!" And he addressed the firefighters:

"Hey, speak up. Did you ask for something and we didn't give it to you?"

"Nooo, what's that nonsense, Mr. Minister, we're doing very well," said the soot-blackened firefighters, coughing, "God forbid we complain!"
