ITALY

A 32-year-old Albanian man has been arrested in Italy, suspected of being involved in two apartment burglaries in Bergamo.

Police had identified a suspicious vehicle in Albano Sant'Alessandro and had followed it to Torre de' Roveri. After a stop near the sports field, the driver of the vehicle had picked up two people coming from the surrounding agricultural areas.

Their movements raised suspicions among the carabinieri, who requested reinforcements from the Radiomobile patrol. As soon as they saw the officers, the three people abandoned the vehicle and ran away towards the fields.

Two of them managed to escape, while the 32-year-old Albanian was captured after a scuffle with the officers. According to the carabinieri, he was still wearing black work gloves and during the resistance caused one of the officers to fall and be injured.

Italian media write that, during the search, police found and seized over 1,000 euros in cash, some gold jewelry, and other valuables.

Also, several tools that could be used for burglaries in homes were seized, including screwdrivers, cutting pliers, a modified drill bit, two flashlights, a flexible cord, and a two-way radio.

The 32-year-old was arrested and taken to the Bergamo prison. After the hearing to validate the arrest, the preliminary investigation judge decided that he should remain under house arrest, with an electronic bracelet.

Meanwhile, investigations continue to fully unravel the incident and identify the whereabouts of two other accomplices, who are still being sought./ Primabergamo
