The identity of the person who hit Liverpool fans with a car is revealed

The man arrested for the shocking incident during Liverpool's victory parade has been identified as a former Royal Navy commando, 53, who reportedly "panicked" when his car was surrounded by crowds.

The incident happened on Monday evening in the city center, near the iconic Royal Liverpool building, where 79 people, including children and the elderly, were injured.

According to a close friend, the man was doing a favor by accompanying his wife's girlfriend and her daughter on a date, when the situation got out of control.

"People opened the car door, grabbed him by the throat and he panicked," he told the Mail. "He called the woman to tell her what was happening and then he doesn't remember anything."

The dramatic footage shows the moment when the Ford Galaxy he was driving crosses a roadblock, avoids an ambulance and crashes into the crowd, leaving four people trapped under the wheels. The victims ranged in age from 9 to 78 years old, all British citizens.

The suspect is currently in custody on charges of multiple attempted murders, driving under the influence of drugs and dangerous driving. But his friends are shocked by these claims.

"He hasn't smoked for more than 20 years and I can't believe he took drugs. That's not in his character," the friend added.

According to his LinkedIn profile, the man served as a commando in the 1990s, then studied psychology and mathematics, and currently works in the field of cybersecurity. He has been described as a devoted family man, with three children and a 20-year marriage, who travels frequently with family and maintains a regular lifestyle.

Even the mechanic who had serviced his car three months ago expressed surprise: "He looked like a caring man, proud of his car. I recognized him immediately from the footage. I don't understand what happened – maybe he panicked."

Investigations continue, as authorities try to find out if it is a deliberate incident, a mental crisis or a serious panic case that ended in tragedy.
