Authorities in the state of Ohio are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 53-year-old man while being arrested.
According to Sky News, Frank Tyson died while being arrested by police officers Beau Sonnege and Camden Burts in Canton, Ohio, on the evening of April 18.
The local police department released footage captured by officers' uniform cameras. In the footage in question, which has caused reactions, the arrested person can be heard repeatedly saying the phrase "I can't breathe" as the two policemen arrest and handcuff him. At one point, one of them appears kneeling on the 53-year-old's back.
Tyson then stops talking and, nearly five minutes later, an officer discovers that he has no pulse. When the ambulance called by the police finally arrives, the man is already dead. Frank Tyson allegedly fled the bar where he was arrested after a car accident in which he was involved.
In the video released to the public, he is seen resisting arrest, shouting that "they are trying to kill him". "Call the sheriff," he yells over and over as officers tell him to calm down. The officers tackle Tyson to the ground, with one of them placing a knee on his back for about thirty seconds before finally removing it. Tyson says once again that he can't breathe before he closes his mouth. More than five minutes pass before another officer returns to ask if the detainee is breathing. The policeman checks his pulse. At 8:37 p.m., a police officer asks again if Tyson has a pulse, but gets no response. Then the ambulance arrives, while the doctors find that Tyson has passed away.
