US President Donald Trump has been named by Politico as the most powerful person in Europe, a title the newspaper attributes to his direct influence on politics, security and geopolitical balances on the continent.

According to Politico , the selection was made after months of reporting across Europe, in-depth analysis, and editorial discussions to determine not the most popular figures, but those who truly have the power to change the course of events.

Trump, unparalleled influence in Europe

In the published analysis, Politico writes that Trump's influence has reshaped European diplomacy, security policy and the continent's economic movements. European leaders see him as unpredictable, often threatening, but remain dependent on the US for protection and stability.

In the first months of his second term, EU leaders rushed to Washington to preserve relations with the White House, as Trump called into question NATO's Article 5 and imposed an unbalanced trade deal that left Europe relieved but defenseless.

His closeness to Vladimir Putin and public pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky destabilized European governments, while his rhetoric on migration pushed continental politics further to the right.
