Over 5,000 licenses for "taxi" services have been issued in Tirana recently, bringing chaos to this service. Anyone who owns a car or a motor vehicle understands very well the current situation in the capital, where taxis have occupied not only the dedicated lanes, but all the streets or parking lots.

The granting of licenses without criteria by the Municipality of Tirana has brought chaos to this service, where unqualified firms or individuals have now become a means of danger for passers-by, those with vehicles or pedestrians.

The situation seems to have gotten out of control, as it is enough to look at the roads, parking lots or traffic to understand that "enough is enough". But, this situation has a "culprit", the Municipality of Tirana, which instead of ensuring a peaceful environment for living, for vehicle traffic or for pedestrians, continues to add vehicles without any verification whatsoever.

Sources from the Municipality of Tirana told VoxNews that the situation seems quite alarming, as the institution currently has no "head", which has led to the respective directors acting freely. There is no control and no accountability, while in every sector there is already "friendship" and perhaps even bribery. But, endangering the lives of residents or throwing an entire city into chaos, it seems that only these greedy people can do it!

The same sources explain that there is no control of the documents submitted by individuals or even certain companies, which often provide false information. There are very strong suspicions that, out of the 5,000 licenses issued, a good part of the drivers do not even have taxi driver's certificates. To obtain this certificate, you must register and get a class D license at the Road Transport Directorate.

Another serious violation, where the bureaucrats of this sector in the Municipality of Tirana have not even bothered to verify the taxis. Everyone justifies that a check is needed from the DPSHTRR or the State Police, but the fact is that the documents and the license are issued by the Municipality of Tirana. If this municipality, the employees of the relevant directorate, are incapable of verifying these documents, why do they continue to issue licenses?!

The suspicions are very high, as certain individuals or firms are suspected of laundering money with this activity. Some of them have formally completed the documents, obtained a certificate or a fictitious technical director, and then through interference or even bribes, they have obtained this license. Then, they have "sold" the license to others, as they themselves complete or make fictitious work balances.

Some of the bosses or owners of these licenses do not even live in Albania, as they engage in other activities.

The increase in licenses has led to the consumption of other criminal acts. The State Police has taken several actions and has arrested drivers who deal with the distribution of narcotics. Taxi drivers and these companies have become the largest couriers of drugs, which circulate in Tirana. Taxis take them to nightclubs, hotels, bars or restaurants. They even send them to apartments.

But, on the other hand, despite the fact that there are serious suspicions of money laundering or drug trafficking, the Municipality of Tirana continues to issue licenses! It is time for the issuance of these licenses to be suspended, given that we are dealing with chaos, danger, money laundering or even drug trafficking. In addition, luxury services and human trafficking are also added to these crimes.

Individuals or firms that have obtained “taxi” licenses have become the biggest patrons of the prostitution business. Women from all over the world have come to Tirana and do the “oldest job in the world.” It is precisely the licensed taxis that take them to their destinations.

"Enough is enough" and an administrative, or even criminal, investigation is needed for all those who have these licenses or even for those who have granted them. We are dealing with the consumption of several criminal offenses, which deserve an in-depth investigation.
