Discussions behind closed doors during the court session in the Appeal of the Court of Criminal Appeals for the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj , who is seeking release from the cell where he has been held since February 10, are revealed.
Mayor Veliaj has opposed the SPAK file, stating that the new evidence is a bug and his phone calls with his son, as well as his family.
Veliaj claimed that SPAK had been eavesdropping on his family conversations for a month, which, according to the mayor, were related to media interviews.
"You have not considered Sali Berisha's public attacks on SPAK as new evidence. But you have considered my phone calls with my son and family and my interest in interviews on mainstream TV as new evidence," Erion Veliaj is reported to have said.
He has requested an open-door hearing, stating: "I am still the incumbent mayor, voted for by a quarter of a million people. I stand by every post I have made on social media."
