A 40-year-old man has been arrested by the Durrës port border police after attempting to smuggle around 109,000 euros undeclared into Albania.

The Blues have seized 108,960 euros and 600 francs suspected to be the product of criminal activities.

The money was found in the van driven by the 40-year-old man with the initials JZ, a resident of Dibër.

"During the second-line check, in the van driven by this citizen, 108,960 euros and 600 francs were found, which he was attempting to bring into Albania without declaring to the PKK," the police announced.

Along with the money, the van driven by the arrested person, as well as 2 cell phones and his passport, were seized.

Another attempt to move large sums of money without declaring it to the PKK is detected and foiled.

3 days ago, Durrës Port Police seized 223,200 euros suspected to be proceeds of crime and arrested their possessor.

The Border Police Services of the port of Durres, as a result of the intensification of detailed controls and verifications at the entry/exit of Albania, with the objective of preventing and combating border crimes, in cooperation with customs authorities, finalized the second phase of the police operation codenamed "Asset".

During the operation, citizen JZ, 40 years old, resident of Dibër, was arrested in flagrante delicto.

During the second-line check, in the van driven by this citizen, 108,960 euros and 600 francs were found, which he was attempting to bring into Albania without declaring to the PKK.

Along with the money, the van driven by the arrested person, as well as 2 cell phones and his passport, were seized as material evidence.

In cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office and partners, work continues to document the source of the seized money.

The procedural materials were passed to the Durrës Prosecutor's Office for further action.
