The teachers' union has warned of a national protest on February 22 due to the non-fulfillment of their demands by the government.

During a statement to the media, the head of the Teachers' union, Sandër Kovaçi, stated that the government had enough time to consider their requests and provide a solution, which according to him has not happened yet.

According to Kovac, the basis of the protest is the demands of the petition signed by the lecturers, which have not yet been fulfilled.

"Following the fulfillment of our academic mission as well as the commitment that we have all made together "for a quality education and at the service of society", throughout these months we have followed the review, by the public authorities, of the requirements of our petition. We inform you that SPUSH has officially and publicly addressed the relevant institutions for handling the legitimate demands of academic, auxiliary-academic and administrative staff, with the belief that these institutions recognize, value, and therefore should support public and voluntary organizations of academic staff and the voice of this intellectual group, who believe more than anyone else that a democratic society functions as such as long as its citizens are provided with quality education.

The statements and attitudes of the government to not financially support higher education in relation to the increase in salaries and the fund for scientific research proves the lack of recognition, but also the sensitivity of the authorities to what is happening in universities and in our entire society. This VKM leads to the annihilation of the foundations on which public universities are built, which turns them into private property, this will lead to the closure of universities in districts that will lead to depopulation, the concentration of programs in Tirana is another concern, representatives of the government or assembly, each of the colleagues who signed the petition, we know that he is always excited to solve the problems. If there was a good will, the requests would have been approved. The goal is for our students to become successful in the ways of life, the government apparently does not love students. The local union has called a protest on Wednesday at 12:00 in front of the technical university corps and students" said Kovaci.

What are the requirements of the lecturers?

- Salary increase for lecturers and support staff

- Increasing funding for scientific research

-Restoration of salary allowances for 'Occupational health requirements'

-Increasing the salary allowance for seniority

-Increasing the payment of additional workload hours

-Revaluation of the teaching hour as there is a discount of 50% of the payment of the teaching hour as a result of the non-differentiation of the teaching hour of the lecture.

-Revision of the tax of 23% on the payment of the additional load

- To suspend until 2026 the implementation of point c) of paragraph 3, of Chapter III of VKM No. 112, dated 23.2.2018, for the criteria for receiving the title "Professor".

- Make transparency on the budget and income of public universities.
