The Fier Prosecutor's Office has sent Ilir Nukaj for trial, who is accused of brutally raping an elderly couple in the village of Povelçë on October 12, 2024, causing the death of 80-year-old Namik Rustemi.

He is accused of 'Intentional Serious Injury resulting in Death' as ??provided for in Articles 88/2 and 89 of the Criminal Code.

From the investigations carried out within the framework of criminal proceedings no. 1591, of 2024, it resulted that on 12.10.2024, in the village of "Hoxhare e Re" (Povelçë), Administrative Unit Dërmenas, Municipality of Fier, citizen Namik Rustemi, for weak motives, exercised physical violence against the elderly Namik Rustemi and A. Rustemi, 77 years old. (spouses), where as a result of the violence exerted, one of them died, the Fier prosecution informed today.

Nukaj was arrested a day after the murder. According to the investigation, the 47-year-old, also known as Ledjan, had gone to the elderly man's shop and asked for beer, but the 80-year-old refused, recognizing him as a person with a criminal record. After the refusal, Nukaj used violence against the couple. Nukaj had previously been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder.

Nukaj was investigated under the security measure 'arrest with imprisonment'
