What is happening in Kosovo with the young footballer, Etnik Brruti, is unprecedented, as he is facing a flood of insults and serious accusations, for the sole reason that he has chosen the Albanian national football team.

As reported in several media outlets, the Kosovo U21 captain made the decision on Saturday to join the red and black national team in the future.

That was enough to start a wave of insults against him on social media, even going so far as to call him a "traitor."

But Etnik Brruti's father gave them a strong response. Here's what he wrote on social media:

Traitors are all those who call the defense of the flag of Adem Jashari, Zahir, Agimi and all the martyrs who fell for freedom treason! My son has made a decision that stems from his convictions and love for the nation. He has not rejected Kosovo, but has chosen to play for the Albanian national team, for the flag with which we have wrapped our martyrs. This is not treason, but loyalty to the ideal for which we fought.

"All those who judge today should know that no one can give us lessons about patriotism and sacrifice for Kosovo. No one has the right to question the decision of Brrut, who is following his path with heart and soul, defending national values. For us, Kosovo and Albania are not separated, because we are one nation, one blood and one history!" wrote Etnik's father, Besnik.
