VfL Bochum pulled off a spectacular upset over Bayern Munich, winning 3-2 at the Allianz Arena and ending the Bavarians' 11-game winning streak in the Bundesliga.
Bayern, with 10 changes to their lineup after the victory over Leverkusen, took the lead in the 14th minute with a beautiful goal from Raphael Guerreiro.
Serge Gnabry then missed a penalty, but Guerreiro doubled the lead in the 30th minute. Bochum responded immediately, with Jakov Medi? scoring from a corner kick.
The Bavarians were reduced to 10 men before the break after João Palhinha was sent off. After the comeback, Sissoko equalised with a precise header.
In the 70th minute, Matúš Bero completed the upset with a calm finish. The victory lifts Bochum into the play-off zone for survival, while Bayern remain eight points ahead of Leverkusen.
The latter missed a golden opportunity to narrow the gap in the title race, after being defeated 2-0 by Werder Bremen at the BayArena.
This was the second consecutive defeat for Xabi Alonso's team, something that had not happened since May 2023.
Leverkusen, who won this match 5-0 to secure the title last season, started the match badly, conceding a goal in the seventh minute. Romano Schmid scored after a beautiful move by Bremen, while the home team did not have a single shot on target in the first 20 minutes.
Despite substitutions in the second half, Leverkusen failed to respond. Florian Wirtz came on as a substitute but was forced off injured. In the end, Justin Njinmah sealed the defeat with an extra-time goal, leaving Leverkusen eight points behind Bayern, who they will face in the second leg of their Champions League tie in midweek.
