The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, has spoken in tones of regret in the Parliament of Italy, as she said that she does not feel proud that the biggest criticisms of the migrant agreement with Albania came from the Italians themselves.
"It is unfortunate that many of the discordant voices came from Italy, where Edi Rama was attacked from many sides for having helped Italy," Meloni underlined in her speech.
She also added that it is unfortunate and surprising that there have been "threats up to the expulsion of the Albanian prime minister from PSE, where apparently for some left-wing Italians it is a sin to help Italy."
"There is an ongoing dialogue with the EU Commission on the agreement to prove the commitment to full compliance with EU, national and international law", she emphasized.
Meanwhile, the agreement, approved by the Italian Parliament with the majority of votes, has also passed the first filter in Albania and is expected to be put to the vote on December 14.
In the meantime, two lawsuits have been filed in the Constitutional Court, from Reestablishment and the official Democratic Party. DP demands the suspension of the parliamentary procedure for the ratification of the protocol.
Earlier, the Italian Parliament gave the green light to the majority bill on the issue of immigrants. The votes in favor were 189, while 126 were against.
