"We need a protocol for rest on the job and smart work for workers, as happened during Covid-19." This is what the president of Confindustria, Carlo Bonomi, says, speaking to Sky Tg24 about the issue of protecting workers in these days of extreme heat. "Besides the break during work for the countries most affected by heat waves", he says, "we are also talking about intelligent work, thus again expanding the possibility to resort to this type of work, so that workers do not move and stay in their homes".

Warm-up protocol

The president of Confindustria clarifies that the protocol that will be reached with the unions, according to the model of the one for Covid, must allow "extraordinary solutions in this period that can cover all the workers", to avoid excessive exposure to high temperatures. To think that you risk your life because you go to work is something that should make everyone think, it is not only a matter of employers' associations, it is a matter of trade unions and it is a matter of the government", concluded Bonomi.

Smart work due to excessive heat

The demand for intervention for the safety of workers has also come from the trade unions. The Ministry of Labor, not surprisingly, is evaluating the possibility of extending the emergency smart work for the summer months. However, the intervention would need an adapted legal instrument. Minister Calderone said that "at the moment there is no regulatory tool in which it can be entered", explaining that however this "does not mean that it cannot be identified". The alternative is to work on company and union agreements.
