Iran Government Sites Attacked, Group Anonymous Claims Responsibility

Several Iranian government websites have gone down as a result of the attack carried out by the hacker group, Anonymous.

This group has claimed responsibility for the attack, following national protests that have been held as a sign of dissatisfaction over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, after being arrested by the Morality Police in Iran.

The website of the Iranian presidency, the Fars news agency - close to the authorities - and the Forensic Center of Iran are among the sites still inaccessible.
On September 20, a Twitter page purporting to belong to the group Anonymous posted a video message offering support for women's and girls' rights.

"We are here and we are with you. Wait for us!" it is said in the message.

"This is the last time," a man is heard saying, believed to be referring to Amin's death.

"The Iranian people are not alone."

Iran has faced national protests in Iran over Amin's death.

The Iranian government has almost completely blocked the internet.

NetBlocks, a London-based watchdog group, has said that Iran is currently subject to the largest internet restrictions since protests in November 2019 due to rising gas prices.

The latest wave of protests has spread to over 80 cities in Iran and at least nine deaths have been confirmed by various sources.
