The Rome Serious Crimes Court has sentenced Mark Antony Samson to life imprisonment, the young man who in March 2025 stabbed his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Albanian Ilaria Sula, to death and threw her body, sealed in a bag, off a cliff. The defendant, despite the fact that he confessed his guilt, was found guilty of the criminal offenses of aggravated premeditated murder and concealment of the corpse.

During the final hearing held at Rebibbia Prison, the prosecution presented arguments on the aggravating circumstances of the crime.

Prosecutor Maria Perna emphasized before the jury that "this was not a crime of passion" and that "Samson never regretted what he did, continuing to believe that Ilaria Sula deserved that fate."

The prosecution also highlighted the defendant's attempts to evade full legal responsibility, stating that "Samson never told the truth and continued to lie to avoid admitting the premeditation of the crime."

After the verdict was announced, the victim's father, Flamur Sula, expressed the family's pain in the face of the irreparable loss.

"Justice has been served, but the real sentence of life imprisonment is for us, me and my wife. He is still breathing, my daughter is not," he said, also confirming that he has had continued faith in the judicial system.

The murder of the 22-year-old Albanian student living in Rome has prompted strong reactions of solidarity even in the academic environment. Sapienza University, where Ilaria studied and which has joined the process as a civil party, was represented through a letter of support from students sent to the Sula family.

Their message emphasized that “the pain you have felt is inexplicable,” adding that her name “resounds in your hearts and ours every day.” The students praised the young woman, recalling that “thanks to you, everyone knows that she was a wonderful, kind, cheerful girl, a good girl, and a diligent student.”
