The American President, Joe Biden, in the speech held at the UN General Assembly in New York, has condemned Russia's military actions in Ukraine.
He called the war in Ukraine "brutal and unnecessary".
He accused Russia of invading the neighboring country, adding that "Moscow has shamelessly violated the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter."
The head of the White House says that Vladimir Putin has tried to "wipe a sovereign state off the map".
While Russia's plan to organize referendums in some regions of Ukraine to join Moscow, he considers them false.
"Putin claims he had to act because Russia was threatened. But no one threatened Russia and no one other than Russia asked for conflict", said the American President.
Joe Biden also condemned the Russian President's threats against Europe with nuclear conflicts, while regarding the war in Ukraine he said that Moscow wants Ukraine to cease to exist as a state and as a people.
The US president asked UN member states to recommit to not allowing the spread of nuclear weapons.
"Regardless of what is happening in the world, the United States is ready to take critical arms control measures. A nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought," declared US President Joe Biden.
