The former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Tony Blair, has said that he has never regretted helping Kosovo in its liberation 25 years ago.
In the solemn session held today in the Assembly of Kosovo on the occasion of his visit, Blairi remembered those who fell for freedom, expressing eternal gratitude for them.
"I cannot thank you enough for the welcome you gave me. On this day 25 years ago, the agreement was reached. Kosovo was finally freed, people can live, hope, believe again in the future free from pressure and injustice. Today we remember those who died, who gave their lives for the liberation of this nation. We remember their courage, their sacrifice and express our eternal gratitude to them and their families. We met Kosovar refugees in the camps near Skopje, we heard touching stories. Their faces were begging for help. We helped and I have never regretted it," said Blair in Parliament.
Blair said that the war for Kosovo was not only for the Kosovars but, as he said, for everyone, including his own.
"For me, the fight for Kosovo was not only for the Kosovars, but for all of us, including my country, which has appreciated that freedom is something that must be fought for. It was a fight for freedom, but not simply to be free, but because freedom opens the mind and soul of man," Blair continued.
Tony Blair is staying in Kosovo on the eve of marking the 25th anniversary of the Liberation of Kosovo.
