Decision approved/ 13th pension and doubling of average pension by 2030

Albanians who receive a pension will benefit from one in 13 within 5 years. The Government has approved the Policy Document on Aging and the Action Plan for the period 2025-2030.

The Action Plan for Older Persons aims to provide a sustainable approach to improving the quality of life of older people in Albania.

Currently, in Albania there are 725 thousand pensioners who can benefit from this initiative, which is expected to be approved in the future.

So far, pensioners have been supported with two bonuses, one in the spring and one at the end of the year.

The strategy also foresees a series of measures aimed at reviewing the legal framework for reducing tax rates on income of employees of retirement age; Bonuses for sustainability and performance; Support for private pensions; Flexibility of working hours.

The Albanian government also plans to continue negotiations on the recognition of pensions, while expectations are that mutual recognition of pensions with Greece will occur within 2030. Greece turns out to be the country with the highest number of Albanian emigrants, over 670 thousand.

These measures were taken in the context of demographic developments which show that the population over the age of 60 constitutes ¼ of the population in Albania, a trend which is increasingly deepening due to the aging of the population, the decline in fertility and the phenomenon of emigration.
