The leader of the Movement for National Development, Dashamir Shehi, has warned of further escalation of the situation in the country if the crisis is seen only as a police one, while student and high school student protests are now in their seventh day.

Invited to the show "Off the Record", Shehi said that the current situation brings to mind elements of the 1997 riots, which according to him was the result of not making political decisions at the right time.

Shehi emphasized that the protests are a consequence of a political crisis and, therefore, require political solutions and not just the intervention of law enforcement, as otherwise other situations will erupt.

"In fact, history often repeats itself in different forms. When this mess starts, we all remember 97', which is a derivative of not making political decisions at the right moment. When you think that you will solve things through repressive means, with the army, with SHIK, you remember those situations, when the solution was very easy, and we proposed it. We come to today's situation. Here, thank God, we are not in 97, but there are elements.

Now they are trying to solve this problem with the police. The police will solve it, because with the students the police will win, they have their own means, there is an excuse, that no one wants to burn down the shops. Even inside there may be people who want to steal, there are thugs, but this rebellion is the result of a political crisis. But it is not a police issue. The crisis will not be solved, it will explode in another place. The crisis is political and it needs political means, it is not a police issue", he said.
