Salaries in the south "empty" Tirana of waiters

The relocation of youth, and not only from the capital, to work in the south of the country during the summer season is causing problems for bars and restaurants in the capital.

In the last 2 months alone, nearly 300 jobs for waiters and bartenders have been listed in employment agencies.

"More than the bars and restaurants in Tirana, which normally see a slight drop in the flow of people or customers during the summer, when everything moves to the coast, the units on the coast are also suffering, which are starting to compensate with people they hire from abroad," says employment expert Flora Xhamani Baba.

The increase in seasonal offers, high salaries reaching up to 1,200 euros for a waiter on the coast, and informal work that is often offered without a contract, are factors that drive this massive displacement.

"They also leave their jobs in the middle of the season, because some can't do it, some think they can find a better salary, even 100 thousand old lek, somewhere else. And this happens because the labor market is not regulated," the expert says, among other things.

The number of bars and restaurants in the capital averages almost 67 per 10,000 inhabitants, making it among the cities with the highest indicator in Europe, which will make finding employees difficult this summer season./Scan
