The election of the Ombudsman has become a "Trojan Horse" that the socialists introduced into the "castle" of the democrats, dividing the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party. The socialist majority prefers the oppositionist Endri Shabani, the latter gave up his party, Nisma Thurje, to sit in the chair of the (Ombudsman).
Endri Shabani was included in the list with the signatures of DP deputies, who later regretted it and requested that their list be withdrawn, but the Laws Committee, headed by Ulsi Manja, did not accept it.
In the plenary session of the Parliament where the Ombudsman is expected to be elected, there will be 6 names: Adriana Kalaja, Aranita Brahaj, Besim Ndregjoni, Skënder Haluci, Tartar Bazaj and Endri Shabani (the favorite of the socialists).
The Democratic MPs who gave the signatures for Endri Shabani are not new to parliament but well-known names in the DP. Saimir Korreshi from the ranks of the DP said in a television interview that we received orders from the leaders of the party and the parliamentary group, so the signatures for Endri Shabani were orders from above, but when it was realized that they fell into the trap, they tried to get out but too late.
These unserious actions by opposition MPs make them appear divided in the eyes of the public, and this with the help of the socialists. The scenes that attempted to turn the tables on each other were brought out (by order) by the majority media to delegitimize the leader of the DP, who publicly came out in support of Besim Ndregjoni but in the meantime gave his signatures to Endri Shabani.
We recall that this is not an isolated case, in 2022 the Democratic Party officially proposed and supported Ledio Braho for Ombudsman, but the situation ended in confusion and political lack of coordination. Earlier in 2017, when Erinda Ballanca was elected, there were accusations of bargaining as a result of the May 17 agreement between Rama and Basha.
It seems that history will repeat itself tomorrow. The opposition is displaying internal weaknesses, a lack of decision-making, and an approach that produces more fog than guarantees for an independent and credible institution.
The Democratic Party, with the election of the People's Advocate, had a golden chance to show itself open and transparent with a name that could be a personality outside its ranks. To prove that the People's Advocate will be an institution for citizens and not for their interests. Today, when the government and the socialist majority are immersed in problems with justice, the opposition is appearing even weaker and without a political plan.
For citizens, the message is simple; when the opposition doesn't know what it wants, it not only loses positions, it loses trust.
On the other hand, the socialist majority has 83 votes and does not seem to have any difficulty finding a vote beyond its seats among the three PSD deputies, or even among other opposition parties during the secret ballot to complete the 84 votes.
So the "Nano-Berisha" agreement that the Ombudsman presented to the opposition will be implemented, but with a caveat that the elected opposition member be the favorite of the majority.
