Do Albanians read?

When they asked me: Why do you write a novel? Where are the readers in Albania!!!

Why are you wasting years of your life? They don't read! That's it!

I smiled politely, but inside I saw with irony, compassion, and a little contempt, what he told me! And it wasn't just one. And it wasn't without school!

When they asked me: Well, you wrote the novel "The Second Punishment of Eve" (Papirus Publications), but why did you make it so voluminous? Where do Albanians read so much!

I smiled with great humility, but inside I felt pity with irony and love mixed with contempt for what he said to me. And he was not at all uneducated!

Now that I see from the bookstores' data that the novel is gaining momentum, especially among simple readers, but high in their tastes, without ranks, without titles, without offices, without public status, but people with personality, I am pleased.

Not simply because the novel is so popular that even an author in Paris would envy it, this is personal ego, from which I am not immune, but because I was not wrong in believing.

How come Albanians don't read the clock? How do you know? Or do you know from the coffee cup?!

How could we not stop our intellectual nonsense for once! How could we not get our mouths full of hair and spiders! How could we not stop despising our own people!

As we used to say that Albanians had shallow religious faith! That supposedly Vaso Pasha or Pashko Vasa from Misiri or Egypt said that the religion of Albanians is Albanianism, so that Albanians are without religion, atheists! Or they must be atheists – this is how the evil propaganda of the ignorant with titles interpreted Pasha.

Without faith or religion!

Here is the Albanian lexicon! My unwavering faith was confirmed. Thank you to those who believed in me and invested!

Insert a "Albanians don't care about reading, art, culture!!!" and don't bother creating dramas, novels, poetry, or anything else, just produce political news! For the truth!

The experiment was a success! Shut your mouth, you atheist! Don't insult your people!

Without a doubt, book reading has declined! But, it's not that Albanians don't read! It's not that Albanians are ignorant! Nor is it that technology, namely social networks, has hindered reading!

Idiocy!

I know well that in Europe there is a strong return to the novel, even to the novel of 800 or more pages, not in vain, but I will not stay to explain it! It is a difficult psychological, sociological, cultural exercise not easy for moldy dogmatic minds!

It seems like there is also a strong return to paper media! But I won't explain this either because it would be a waste of time!

Why is it that where young people have greater access to technology and social networks than we do, they still read?

Whoever does not know how to compare remains blind for life! And he concludes his lazy idiocy with one sentence: And where do Albanians read!

Ignorant youth – declares – only want to be on social media!!!

But, here's what I read... The pace of popularity of the novel "The Second Punishment of Eve", according to booksellers' data, would make even a writer in Berlin, Paris, and Rome jealous... societies thirty times more demographically dense than us poor people!

Before you blame the "infidel" Albanians, look at the mechanisms that convey literature, and not only that, to the mass reader!

Where are the literary salons, where are the artistic magazines, where are the miserable literature textbooks in high school, where are the literary circles, where is the state aid for publishers, for booksellers, without seeing the state of most libraries as public toilets or bathrooms, outside any modern standards, and then blame it on Albanian ignorance!

Oh, the drop that doesn't fall on us!

Happy to see how "The Second Punishment of Eve" (Papirus Publications) is being received, my previous novel "The Monk" (Papirus Publications) had given me confidence.

Albanian readers don't ask about the number of pages or the price, they want to read! When they don't want the creation, give it away for free and they won't touch it with their hands!

According to their whim, of course!

But they get stuck.

Especially authors should never put the burden of blame on the reader! Do we write Albanian dramas, or do we fill pages with personal grievances, do we go around our psychological drama, like wandering souls, and seek with psychic violence to blame those who cast us aside?

Thank you, dear readers!

Thank you for reflecting, even you who still repeat that the key formula of the National Renaissance was that Albanians should not have religion, they are or should be without faith and religion!

To repeat today's version: Where Albanians read!
