Alarm from Dubrovnik/ River pollution, the dark side of tourist Albania

Perhaps there are still many Albanians who are not impressed by the fact that Albania's garbage ends up in the sea, precisely where it is naively believed that the future of the country is being built through tourism. Even when rivers are transformed into sewage canals that end up on beaches or when piles of plastic waste invade the coasts and seas, neither the eyes of those who are paid to watch, nor the cameras of the "media" immersed in banality, Botox and Ottoman mud, manage to see anything.

But what is not seen here has already reached Dubrovnik! The world's largest media outlets have raised the alarm about the Albanian garbage that is also festering in Dubrovnik, one of the pearls of world tourism.

Although this is a great shame, it is never shameful nor too late to admit that we are in a catastrophic state in terms of environmental protection, which is essentially the true protection of Albania, and that the orientation of national efforts and resources must shift from the illusions of a cosmetic tourism built on sewage and manure to fundamental investments in the management of sewage and urban waste.

As long as Tirana, Shkodra, Kukës, Lezha, Elbasan, Fier, Gjirokastra, Berat and all the other cities in the country continue to dump their sewage into the river, the prospects for tourism in Albania will also be bleak. But that's not all.

We will only be able to talk about tourism when the Drini, Buna, Fani, Mati, Erzeni, Shkumbini, Devolli, Osumi, Semani, Vjosa and all the other rivers and streams of Albania, from sewage canals, return to clean and pure rivers, just as God has forgiven us.

The alarm sirens that are blaring from Dubrovnik, New York, Washington or Vienna should be listened to carefully here too. Those who do not hear or ignore the alarm signals, as a rule, face the consequences of disaster.
