Fire in Selenica destroys dozens of cars at a vehicle collection point

A fire that broke out around noon this Wednesday in the village of Penkovë, in the Municipality of Selenica, also involved a vehicle spare parts collection point. As a result of the flames, dozens of vehicles were burned, while considerable material damage was caused.

Firefighters have arrived at the scene and are working to bring the flames under control and prevent them from spreading to the surrounding area. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and an investigation by the authorities is awaited to fully clarify the incident.

According to business owner Tomian Hysaj, the economic damage caused by the fires is estimated at around 35 million old lek. He is seeking support from the Municipality of Selenica and state institutions to cope with the losses.

The Chief of Civil Emergencies at the Municipality of Selenica, Arqile Kokalli, announced that the joint intervention of firefighters from Selenica, Vlora and Himara made it possible to localize the flames, avoiding the further spread of the fire to other areas. However, field work continued until the active fires were completely extinguished and the situation was kept under control.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, while the damage was only material. The causes of the fire still remain unclear and are expected to be clarified by investigations by the responsible institutions.
