"They went crazy there" - Grida Duma tells how she left the DP and politics to become a moderator: I was stunned when they made me the proposal

Four years ago, Grida Duma handed over her mandate to take on the role of moderator and author of the political show on Top Channel, "Top Story".

She recounted on the "UET Cast" podcast how she made this decision, where she gave up politics after the proposal she received from Top Channel's director, Lori Hoxha, an invitation which Duma called a blessing.

"I was not forced. Nothing is forced in my life anymore. I have no conditions, except life, health and love for my child. Wherever I may be, I know that I am starting from scratch and I know that I can build a standard of living that suits me. I don't need much to live well and I believe that this is the ability or gift of those who live more with their minds than with their bodies.

It came at the right time. It was a proposal that took my breath away at the moment. The CEO of Top Channel was reimagining the way he would run the television, along with the other shareholders. When I heard the proposal, I was kind of stunned. But I believe it was a given, a sign. It came at the right time.”

Invited to UET Cast, the podcast of the European University of Tirana, Grida Duma recounted the details of the decision that changed her life and career, transforming her into a prominent media figure.

"For me, in those moments, I completely lost the ability to do politics, in a political group that had lost its cohesion, plurality and clarity. There were local elections two years ago, and I had a DP protagonist on the show, who told me: "How should we do the DP? You leave, some others left.

I replied: "Because you went crazy" (laughs).

From a political and logical point of view, for me, the Democratic Party left a lot to be desired, as far as the reason why it was doing politics. Its fragmentation, the lack of understanding within itself, the lack of cohesion and coming together for things that were bigger than the small things that divided us, the endless pointing of the finger and blaming within ourselves, as if we didn't know that the ones responsible were neither the members nor the collaborators in politics, but the leadership of the Democratic Party, between Sali Berisha and Lulzim Basha, or between Sali Berisha and Sali Berisha himself.

The moderator and author of "Top Story" revealed her initial doubts, as she emphasized that the decision to stay in the media was the right choice.

"I didn't think I would do it at first. I thought I could try to enter the media and maintain my political position. I think that a person in life must have the courage and guts to make a choice. I believe I made the right choice if we look at how all those who participate in the current political establishment are today," Duma said.
