The testimony of several employees of the Albanian Post is revealed, following the scandal for which the Durrës Court today imprisoned Elisabeta Mataj , former director of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, and imposed 'house arrest' security measures for the chief financial officer Valbona Doni and the treasurer Paola Dana, who are suspected of having embezzled 69 million new lek or over 700 thousand euros.

In her testimony, one of the cashiers, whose name is not made public, explains that transferring funds from Durres to the Shijak and Kruja branches has been common practice for years.

The treasurer says that " in January-February 2026, the General Directorate transferred about 22 million lek to the Durrës Directorate for liquidation purposes."

For the period April-May 2026, payment mandates worth about 56 million lek were made, while for the Kruja branch about 10 million lek and 3 million lek. All these amounts were sent to the Shijak and Kruja branches by the director Elizabeta Mataj .

According to her, Director Elisabeta Mataj told her that the 'Nazeri' counter had exceeded the limit of the foreseen routes. For this reason, according to her, the transport of the money was done by her herself, with the verbal order of Director Elizabeta Mataj .

She further states that ' Mataj would take the bag of money from the cash register, take it to her office and count the lek .'

According to the cashier in question, on several occasions Mataj put the money in his personal bag and immediately left the institution.

In early June 2026, after problems with the liquidation at ASHK, the treasurer states that she found in the system that 'some mandates had been cut without her knowledge and informed the director.'

The treasurer further claims that for several payment mandates, her signatures and those of other treasurers were not authentic, specifically mentioning 'the mandates dated 7.5.2026, 12.5.2026 and 21.5.2026, which according to her were left without the director's signature.'
