The Durrës Court has ordered security measures for three former officials of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, arrested as part of investigations into the embezzlement of 69 million new lek.

The court imposed the measure of "prison arrest" on the former director of the branch, Elisabeta Mataj, while it imposed the measure of "house arrest" on the former head of finance, Valbona Duni, and the former treasurer, Paola Dana.

The three are accused of the criminal offenses of "Abuse of office" and "Theft by abuse of office", committed in collaboration. According to the Prosecution's investigations, during the months of April and May 2026 they are suspected of having embezzled the amount of 69 million new lek.

During the court session, where the Prosecution requested "prison arrest" for all three, while the defense requested a more lenient measure, new statements have also come to light.

Former finance chief Valbona Duni has stated before the court that she did not keep the missing money, but that it was taken by former director Elisabeta Mataj in her office.

On the other hand, Mataj has not provided any explanations for the fate of the missing amount. Asked by the court where the 69 million lek ended up, she replied that she "does not know."

According to investigations by the Prosecution and Police, a considerable financial amount is suspected to have not been collected at the Albanian Post branches in Shijak and Krujë during April and May of this year.

Investigations continue to fully uncover the scheme, identify other persons who may be involved, and determine the final destination of the 69 million new lek.
