Albanian Romeo Bajrami has been charged by US federal authorities with illegal entry into the United States, after allegedly crossing the border from Canada with a rented Sea-Doo jet ski.

According to the criminal case, the 40-year-old is suspected of having broadcast live on Facebook while crossing the St. Clair River. Foreign media reports that the footage has been included in the investigation's evidence.

Investigations show that Bajrami had rented the watercraft in the city of Sarnia, Canada, but did not return it. After notification from Canadian authorities, the US Coast Guard and Border Patrol launched a search, finding the Sea-Doo abandoned on the shores of Port Huron, Michigan.

During the investigation, agents also discovered a public video on Facebook, which they say shows Bajrami crossing the river on a Sea-Doo. According to authorities, the location data in the video matches the area where he is suspected of illegally entering US territory.

After nearly a year of investigations, Bajrami was located in a Boston jail, where he was being held for another case.

He now faces charges of illegally entering the United States. If convicted, he faces up to six months in prison.
