Difficult situation in Mallakastër/ 7 fires still active in the country, here's how the flames are being fought

Seven fires continue to be active in the country, while the most problematic situation remains in the Mallakastër municipality, where the flames are at risk of spreading towards residential areas.

According to the National Civil Protection Agency, a total of 14 fires have been reported in the last 10 hours, of which 7 remain active. 29 firefighting vehicles, 246 operational forces, 90 Armed Forces personnel, a helicopter and an Air Force "Air Tractor" aircraft have been engaged in the operations to isolate and extinguish them.

The most difficult situation is in the villages of Riban and Ngraçan, in the municipality of Mallakastër, where the fire has reached large proportions.

Firefighters from several municipalities, 35 municipal forces, 40 Armed Forces personnel and the "Air Tractor" aircraft are working on the ground, with the aim of preventing the spread of flames towards residential areas.

Meanwhile, in the Dajti area, firefighting efforts continue with the involvement of firefighters, the Protected Areas Administration, 50 Armed Forces personnel and an Air Force helicopter. According to the AKMC, there is no danger to homes.

In the Elbasan region, operations continue in the fires of Shqiponjë, Dardhë Mountain and the village of Mjekës. The fires in Shqiponjë and Mjekës have been brought under control, while no danger to residential areas is reported.

The fire in the mountainous area between Stegopulli and Selcka, in the municipalities of Libohova and Dropull, also remains active, where the flames have reached the top of the mountain and spread within a protected area. Again, no danger to homes is reported.

Positive news comes from Penkova in the municipality of Selenica, where the fire has been completely extinguished. According to preliminary estimates, the flames have engulfed about 2 hectares of pine forest and burned 40 abandoned vehicles. In Gumenica, meanwhile, work continues to extinguish a bush fire, while in Vërzhezhe in the municipality of Skrapar, the situation has been brought under control.
