The mother of Joy, the 22-year-old from Kenya who was brutally raped in Tirana, has rejected the news that the young woman has come out of a coma.

According to her, the girl has improved, but has not passed the risk. She said the 22-year-old is still unconscious, with a breathing tube attached.

“Today is the 22nd of December, I am Ruth Abongo, Joyt's mother. We are still here. Today I would like to give you some information about what some media have said about Joy coming out of her coma. The truth is that Joy is here with me at the Trauma hospital. As you can see she has made some improvements, but the truth is Joy is still in a coma. It is unconscious, not yet awake. It would be a very good news if Joy would come back as in the beginning, that's my wish.

Joy is still unconscious, with a breathing tube attached. The contracts he has in hand have not gone yet. His hands are still the same, his wrists still can't bend or move. The legs are still contracted even though he has done a lot of physiotherapy. Unfortunately the left knee has a problem, it still doesn't bend, not at all. General health I think is improving because of food or physiotherapy. The main problem is still with the brain, I have insisted and asked again and again because it is not being treated here, Joy requires neurological treatment. I continue to need your help because the fund has been opened and is growing, but it is still small and cannot afford the treatment we require. Thank you all for the work you are doing.
