Former Albanian footballer Olgert Muka has been arrested in France. The 46-year-old was detained by French police after more than ten days of surveillance.
According to French authorities, Muka and another Albanian citizen are suspected of distributing cocaine in the Jardin de l'Arquebuse park in Dijon.
The former footballer appeared in court after his arrest, where he gave explanations regarding the circumstances that, according to him, led him to this illegal activity.
He stated that he had been unemployed for about 18 months, after being fired from his position as coach due to health problems, facing great economic difficulties to support his family.
According to French media , Muka described his involvement in drug trafficking as a "temporary employment", dictated by his difficult financial situation.
During his career as a footballer, Olgert Muka has played for some of the most famous Albanian clubs, such as Lushnja, Teuta, Dinamo, Bylis, Flamurtari, Partizani and Besa. He has also worn the Albanian national team jersey in two friendly matches (2002), while after retiring from football he started his career as a coach.
