The French of "Aleat" leave, the state company for the production of
Albanian passport

After 15 years, the French of the company "Aleat" will no longer deal with the production of passports and biometric cards of Albanians, this service will now be transferred to the Albanian state.

In this way, the Council of Ministers has decided to create the state company that will produce passports and biometric cards.

The company will be owned by the Ministry of the Interior and will have an initial capital of 20 million lek, or about 172 thousand euros. The state will inherit from Alliat all of its assets at 109 locations across the country, along with employees and software.

The concession granted in 2008 expires this year after 15 years of operation, while it has been one of the most profitable in our country, collecting around 400 million euros during these years. Last year alone, "Aleat" made a profit of 2.6 billion ALL.

This is the second concession in a short time that passes from the concessionaire to the hands of the state, after that of the technical control of vehicles.

The state company will offer against payment the service of production and distribution of:

a) electronic identity card and biometric passport;

b) biometric document (residence permit for foreigners for any motive except for provisional and humanitarian permit);

c) electronic identity card for persons who have benefited from refugee status and supplementary protection;

ç) travel documents for persons who have received refugee status and supplementary protection;

d) any other biometric document issued by the Ministry of the Interior and its dependent institutions within the scope of state responsibility as well as any other service in accordance with the purpose of its creation and its statute.
