NAME/ BBC: 18-year-old Albanian stole 'GTA 6' game data three years

Arion Kurtaj, a hacker of Albanian origin, became the protagonist of one of the biggest hacks in the history of the video game industry when he stole GTA 6 data in 2023.

Today, " Grand Theft Auto " from Rockstar Games has been targeted by hackers for the second time in three years.

The data breach was reported by cybersecurity media on Saturday after a group of hackers claimed responsibility. In posts seen by the media, the criminals said they had gained access to Rockstar servers managed by a third-party cloud service provider and would publish stolen material online unless a ransom was paid.

However, Rockstar has downplayed the breach, telling the BBC that this incident has no impact on our organization or our players.

"We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a data breach by a third party ," a Rockstar Games spokesperson said.

The incident marks the second time the successful game developer has been hacked.

In 2023, an 18-year-old British hacker of Albanian origin named Arion Kurtaj hacked the company and stole data, source code, and video clips of the unfinished game GTA 6.

The malware attack resulted in 90 incomplete gameplay clips for Rockstar's highly anticipated new game being published on online forums, prompting the firm to release its trailer for the game ahead of schedule.

Kurtaj was part of a gang of teenage hackers called Lapsus$, which hacked several major corporations in 2022 and 2023.
