The fire in Mallakastër has gotten out of control, burning large areas of pine plantations.

The situation in the villages of Riban and Ngraçan continues to be serious, after the fire that broke out two days ago reached large proportions in the evening hours today.

Although numerous firefighters, residents, and military forces are at the scene, the flames are too large to be brought under control.

Authorities say they are working intensively to prevent the flames from spreading to residential areas.

Regarding the fire situation, the Mayor of Mallakastra, Qerim Ismailaj, stated to the media that the fire has expanded, despite the presence of helicopters to help extinguish the flames.

"As you are aware, the fire has expanded, despite the intervention of firefighters and state authorities. It is an area that favors the spread of flames. 110 forces were on the ground today. We will work during the night to keep the fire under observation, so as not to have certain problems. Tomorrow at 5 am, air intervention will be carried out to isolate the fires in the area ," Ismailaj declared.

MP Klevis Jahaj said that the situation regarding the fires in Mallakastër continues to be serious. He added that work was carried out on the ground all day today.

"The situation continues to be serious, we have new outbreaks that continue to spread. There have also been air interventions with helicopters today. We will be on the ground all night. I call on citizens to be vigilant for their lives or property and to listen to the instructions of the authorities, when there is a need for possible evacuations," said Jahaj.

Another active fire this evening is on the vast mountain in Gjirokastra. The fire is large and risks spreading to other areas.

According to authorities, 14 fires have been reported in the last few hours alone, of which 7 are active in Dajt, Mallakastër, Elbasan, Libohovë, Dropull, Selenica and Skrapar. Operations are continuing in all other fires, while no danger to homes is reported.
