The Ministry of Justice announced that it has forwarded to the French authorities the request for the extradition of Albanian businessman Ermal Beqiri.

"The Ministry of Justice, in accordance with Albanian legislation, international agreements and legal cooperation procedures with the French Republic, has today forwarded to the competent French authorities the request for the extradition of citizen Ermal Beqiri, forwarded by the proceeding body, together with the relevant documentation," the ministry announced.

Ermal Beqiri was arrested on July 24 after a small plane entered the security zone over the Penli nuclear power plant at low altitude. After landing at the airport, he was handcuffed and during identity verification, French authorities determined that Ermal Beqiri was on the international wanted list by Interpol.

SPAK has stated that it had previously received information about Beqiri's presence in France. After the arrest, the Special Prosecution Office has requested the judicial authorities in France to seize his assets in this country. The investigations also revealed the purchase of this castle worth around 2.6 million euros, bank accounts with a total value of over two million euros, two apartments, as well as several vehicles used by Beqiri.

The Special Court has imposed a prison sentence on him on December 15, 2025. Beqiri is being investigated by SPAK in connection with the NAKSHI tender file.

According to SPAK, he is suspected of being part of a structured criminal group that manipulated public tender procedures and exerted pressure on competitors. French media have reported that the extradition procedure could take several weeks.
