42 Albanians have returned to their homeland after being deported from Great Britain, where they tried to enter England illegally by dinghy through the English Channel.

They arrived today at "Mother Teresa" airport, where they had left earlier from Britain.

The British media "Daily Mail" writes that among the 42 deported Albanians, 32 of them were criminals sentenced to a total of 89 years in prison for criminal offences, which include the supply of Class A drugs and facilitating illegal entry into the country.

Also on the plane were six asylum seekers and four other immigration offenders who had overstayed their visas or had previously arrived in Britain illegally.

They were escorted by British Immigration officers and upon landing were received by the Albanian police. It is believed that this is the fourth flight in a little more than a month that deports Albanians.

The Home Office confirmed that 32 of those on board today's flight were deported criminals, while 6 were unsuccessful asylum seekers and 4 were law breakers.

The Home Office added that three of the deportees were known to have arrived in Britain by crossing the Channel in small boats.

There it is reported that among the foreign offenders were people convicted of drug production and supply, possession of weapons, theft, possession of criminal property and damage to property.

There were also offenses of entering Britain in breach of a deportation order and possession of false or improperly obtained documents.

The departures marked a step in efforts to remove as many Albanians as possible after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak vowed to deport "thousands" in the coming months.

He unveiled a five-point plan to tackle the Canal crisis last week, including a series of measures to target Albanian newcomers in particular.

According to the figures, more than 13,000 Albanians have arrived in Britain in small boats since the beginning of the year. They now account for about one in three Channel arrivals, despite Albania being a staunch NATO ally eager to join the EU.
