From the hall of the UN Security Council, where today the Albanian presidency will lead one of the most important sessions of the last decade, with the presence of many heads of state and government, Prime Minister Edi Rama, through a video message, states that he will lead an open high-level debate at the UN Security Council, where the focus will be on the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine, but also on addressing current and future humanitarian needs.

In the video message, Rama says that he hopes that this open debate will mobilize the world in its joint efforts to condemn the war and increase the pressure on Russia, to turn the tide and leave room for the start of the just peace process .

"As part of the work program of the Security Council during the month of September, under the chairmanship of Albania, the Council will meet tomorrow for what is likely to be the most important meeting for Ukraine since the beginning of the large-scale occupation by Russia. I will have the honor of chairing this meeting. The heads of state and government of the members of the Security Council, as well as, more broadly, of the members of the United Nations, including Ukraine, will have the opportunity to express their views and to exchange ideas, not only about the ongoing war and its consequences for Ukraine and its people, but also about the impact the war is having on international peace and security, economic development and multilateral action. It will be the first time since the beginning of war, that President Zelensky will be at the United Nations and the Security Council.

I hope that this High Level Open Debate will mobilize the world in its joint efforts to condemn the war and increase the pressure on Russia, to reverse course and make way for the start of the just peace process. Coming from a region where war has caused immense suffering, we are well aware of the value of peace and the monumental efforts required to achieve it and, above all, to maintain it."

As he called for increasing international pressure on Russia, the Prime Minister said that Albania has decided to emphasize the essential need for an effective multilateral action, as the best method for solving common problems, especially peace and security.

The Charter of the United Nations and International Law lay the foundations of what we call human security. They constitute a break from the past, with the traditional practice of dominance, imposition or that of the "mighty who has the right". They ensure equality between states and peaceful means of resolving disputes. This is why Albania has decided to emphasize the essential need for effective multilateral action, as the best method for solving common problems, especially peace and security, in the discussion of the council and, more widely, among the members of the United Nations. United. So, it was decided," said Rama.
The important week of the UN has brought together in the USA, President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Rama with a busy agenda of meetings. The head of state will speak on behalf of Albania in the General Assembly, while Rama will present 2 initiatives in the Security Council, undertaken by our country that holds the presidency of this institution.
