Begaj at the UN: Sustainable development, our strong guarantee for a world of peace and stability

President Bajram Begaj has participated in the High Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development at the UN. At the invitation of the Secretary General of the UN, Begaj participated in this meeting that preceded the start of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly.

President Begaj spoke on behalf of Albania, on the first day of the summit, during the Leaders' Dialogue Segment on the topic "Strengthening integrated policies and public institutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals". Before the heads of state and government of the member countries of the United Nations Organization, Begaj said that sustainable development is the guarantee for a world characterized by peace and stability.

Stopping at Albania, Begaj said that our country is on an accelerated development path. The President emphasized that the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals is a collective national effort, where all institutions and civil society are engaged.

"I would like to emphasize that Albania is on an accelerated development path, embracing a comprehensive and transformative approach that includes economic, social and environmental development. Implementation of the SDGs agenda is not only a priority; it is a collective national effort in which all state institutions are engaged, including civil society,"* - said President Begaj in his speech.

President Begaj focused on the steps taken by our country in the context of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, where he singled out the approval by the Assembly of Albania of the resolution outlining our commitments to promote, finance and monitor the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals, as part of our journey towards EU integration, the creation of the Sustainable Development Goals Acceleration Fund, financed mainly by the government, but also by non-governmental actors and partners.

President Begaj said that efforts should be intensified to give an impetus to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

"The Sustainable Development Goals continue to serve as our universal, indivisible and integrated roadmap, guiding our vision and aspirations for the years to come," President Begaj said at the end of his speech.

On September 18 and 19, the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development, known as the Summit on Sustainable Development Goals, is being held in New York, where the heads of state/government of the member countries of the Organization of Nations participate. United.

This summit, the second since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, is considered a key moment to bring back to the center of attention of states and governments the need for priority treatment of the Sustainable Development Goals and the advancement of the 2030 Agenda, after the impact of the pandemic, the Russian aggression against Ukraine and a number of other factors, which influenced the slowing down of this process.
