The former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu submitted to the Special Court this Thursday a document of the Military Police about the violations that were found in the military department of Gërdec.

The confidential document is dated June 13, 2007, 10 months before the tragedy occurred. It is part of the periodic work of the Military Police in reporting criminal activities in the ranks of the Armed Forces.

The report that reached Fatmir Mediu, at that time the Minister of Defense, is for the month of May 2007. It states that on April 28, 2007, the Military Police found a private entity carrying out works within the territory of the ward of Gërdec.

Mediu says that this is the only letter he received about Gërdec during the time he was Minister of Defense and immediately after that he requested from the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces administrative and criminal prosecution for the FA personnel who allowed the private company to build within the ward.

Meanwhile, at the end of this Thursday's session, the lawyer of Fatmir Mediu stated that the statements of the witnesses in this process have proven that the former Minister of Defense is not responsible for the tragedy of March 15, 2008.
