The Minister of Internal Affairs, Ervin Demo , stated today that the State Police is working to identify all protesters who have used violence against the police, private and public property.
In a statement to the media, where Prime Minister Edi Rama was also present, Demo said that there are a number of sources of information that are being considered to investigate violent individuals.
He added that these people were identified from media footage, from institutional cameras, and from posts they themselves made on social media.
Demo: Thank you, Prime Minister. In fact, I would like to specifically identify the importance of the process that the State Police is currently following in terms of the continuous identification of violent elements who have participated in the protests of recent days.
There are a number of information sources that are being used, starting with those that are public, with the very problematic issues that various media have had regarding the protests that have taken place, as well as social networks, and at the same time, all images of those public or private institutions, private or public property that have been violated during these days have been included.
This process is fortunately being facilitated today by technology itself to make it faster and we actually have cases every day, which are identifiable even when the protesters have hidden their appearance through masks, we have again managed to identify all the protesters who have committed acts of violence. This process will continue.
The State Police is very clear about its duty to bring before the prosecution all those cases that will be built for all persons who have committed violence against institutions and private property.
I believe that the footage is emerging at this moment in terms of the cases that we have identified. Here we see some of them, which are partially masked, despite the fact that these are footage, which were taken from public sources, are social networks, are television cameras, which have actually testified themselves in terms of the level of violence that different individuals have committed. And what we are already doing is that through technology, because there are hundreds and hundreds of hours of footage from different sources, which need to be processed and of course using purely human resources, this would be a very difficult process, but now thanks to technology, we are rapidly advancing in terms of identifying all violent individuals, who have committed these acts against public institutions, against private property and are in fact themselves filmed by public media images or institutional cameras or the very footage that they have posted via social networks.
Therefore, I want to guarantee all citizens that the State Police will work every day for as long as necessary to bring to justice all those who have destroyed public property, all those who have violated private businesses, and the police are doing this faster and more accurately thanks to technology.
