Socialist MP, Erion Braçe, on the show "Kjo Javë" on News 24 spoke about the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, the latter's stay in prison and the capital's need for a leader.

Erion Braçe stated that Erion Veliaj should not remain in prison while the investigations continue, while emphasizing that the cell is the place of serving the sentence, and for this reason he should be outside of it.

Socialist MP Erion Braçe underlined that Erion Veliaj's fundamental human rights are being violated by being held in a cell.

Braçe emphasized that he was not talking about Veliaj as a person, but everything was principled.

"It is a very serious violation of human rights and freedoms. I am not talking about the person Erion Veliaj, but about the principle. Prison is an institution for serving a sentence, it cannot be for waiting for charges to be filed, for the investigation to be conducted, for going to trial, for the decision to be made and for the sentence to be passed. It is a very serious violation of human rights and freedoms.

A citizen who does not pose a danger to society or the freedom of others cannot be imprisoned awaiting investigation, etc. Prison should be an institution for serving a sentence.

"I completely agree with what is being said about this case. I do not want to exert any pressure, but I must maintain a standard and a behavior at the moment when a decision has been made and justice must be done for this case, but also for the city ," said Braçe.

The socialist MP also explained his mistake on social media.

"The city deserves service, it is in difficult conditions, I face it myself. It is not a lie that I say on social networks that I was fine in the village," said Braçe.
