As he had announced earlier, former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has officially submitted the dossier of candidacy for chairman of the Democratic Party this Friday afternoon at the headquarters of the Democratic Party.

The deadline to formalize the candidacies is Saturday, May 7th. The race will take place on May 22nd.

So far, only Berisha has submitted the documentation. No one else has expressed a desire to run against the historic DP leader.

Earlier, the candidates who had expressed the possibility of running, Fatbardh Kadilli, Edvin Kulluri and Agron Shehaj stated that they had withdrawn. Kadilli and Kulluri have stated that there will be no transparent race in the DP and therefore could not run.

Asked today if he is worried that there is no candidate in front, Berisha said that he "does not invent rivals like Edi Rama"

"Then I will simply be a referendum leader, elected by popular referendum, but there is no stronger race than this. If others do not undertake to run for their own reasons and I guarantee them a fair race with full transparent rules. I am not Edi Rama who invents rivals. I do not do that. It is fake, anti-democratic. Who wants, order there is a commission to determine each rule? They do not want, then the referendum remains and I on May 22 if I am elected in a referendum of all Democrats, if I am not elected I am fully subject to their verdict being referendum. "This was not my request, but of course a referendum solution honors me a lot", said Berisha during today.
