The National Council of the Democratic Party came up with a resolution for the election of the President, where it calls farce the process initiated by the Socialist Party in the Assembly and calls for discussions to be held at a more general political level and not just with parliamentary groups.
"The socialist masonry is trying to make up a false consensuality. The Democratic Party denouncing this as behavior that contributes to the deepening political, institutional and constitutional crisis in the country, and which undermines the legitimacy of the process and the viability of the next President," the resolution states.
According to the resolution, the consensus aimed at the Constitution in the election of the President of the Republic is not a formal parliamentary legislative process but has a fundamentally political character.
"As such, the election of the President can only be based on real political wills represented by political parties, mandated by vote to represent constituents. The political and parliamentary tradition in Albania is always based on the effort to find political and parliamentary consensus for the figure of the President of the Republic through political consultations at the highest political levels of parliamentary parties. The breaking of political and parliamentary tradition unravells the premise for true consensus" comes in the resolution.
Furthermore, "the Democratic Party will express its will for the election of the President of the Republic by the vote of deputies of its parliamentary group, in any case without becoming part of the institutional farces of the socialist party".
In the end, the National Council mandates the Reestablishment Commission to appoint representatives for finding a common position with other opposition parties involved in the process of electing the President.
"If in the political and parliamentary process of finding candidacies, the conditions for consensus are created for the president's vote by opposition-nominated candidates, Democratic Party representatives who, together with other representatives of opposition parties, are mandated to nominate candidates in constitutionally defined rounds. Any alternative that enables the election of the President with the votes of the Socialist Party, or secured without real political consensus, will be rejected by vote in the Assembly", the resolution states.
