On Thursday, the Government of Serbia approved the request to the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, to send a number of security forces to Kosovo.

This decision was taken after the meeting held by the Government of Serbia, in which the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, participated. The Serbian president has said that the request will be sent on Thursday evening in electronic form.

He announced that she will be handed over to the KFOR commander on Friday at the border point between Serbia and Kosovo.

"The request is in accordance with UN Resolution 1244 for the return of a certain number from hundreds to a thousand to the Republic of Kosovo. The decision was taken unanimously in compliance with international law", explained Vučič, who participated in the Government session at the invitation of the Prime Minister.

Vučić told RTS that at this moment it would be important for the Serbian security forces to return for the protection of the Serbian population and above all for what is foreseen in the UN Resolution 1244, which is the control at the crossings.

"It would be a good decision. But, based on all the statements so far, we are almost certain that it will not be accepted, but we are waiting to see," he said.

Vučić underlined that this is the first time that a Serbian government takes such a decision, on his own initiative.

Vucic said that Kosovo's application for EU membership violates Article 49 of the EU Treaty.

"The condition to be able to apply for EU membership is to be a European country. I don't know what criterion is used to determine what we mean by being a state, it refers to an EU state or all EU states, or membership in the United Nations," said Vucic.
