Zelensky warns the continent: US support is ending, Army of Europe must be
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for the creation of an "army of Europe" to defend against the Russian threat, after suggesting the US may no longer come to the continent's aid.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, he also said Ukraine "would never accept deals made behind our backs without Ukraine's involvement" after US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to start peace talks.

In a speech on Friday in which he attacked European democracies, US Vice President JD Vance warned that Europe must "progress in a big way" on defense.

Zelensky said: "I truly believe that the time has come, the armed forces of Europe should be created."

"Yesterday here in Munich, the American vice president made it clear [that] decades of old relations between Europe and America are coming to an end," Zelensky said.

"From now on, things will be different and Europe must adapt to this," he added.
